DULUTH — The Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau recently presented FLW Outdoors with the prestigious Event of the Year award for the Forrest Wood Cup and FLW Outdoors Expo.

The Forrest Wood Cup, the world championship of bass fishing, was held Aug. 5 to 8 on Lake Lanier and included the FLW Outdoors Expo, held at the Gwinnett Convention Center and Arena.

The event generated more than $23.2 million for the local economy and drew more than 50,000 visitors to Gwinnett Center over the weekend, according to the Convention and Visitors Bureau. It provided strong media exposure including local, regional and national coverage and generated more than 1,000 hotel room nights.

Coverage of the 2024 Forrest Wood Cup from Lake Lanier and the Gwinnett Convention Center and Arena can be seen on “FLW Outdoors,” airing at 1 p.m. Dec. 26 on VERSUS.
